What is a suppository?
It is a small capsule that is inserted into the vagina.

How do I insert the suppository into my vagina?
You insert the suppository like you would a tampon. You can use your fingers and push it up until you can’t feel it anymore.

What is the recommended dosage of pH-D?
600 mg of boric acid is the recommended dosage, which is included in each suppository. The CDC says that you can use boric acid up to 14 consecutive days.  For acute cases we recommend using until patients are asymptomatic. Usually results will be seen in 2-7 days. 

When and how often should I insert the pH-D suppository?
We recommend using one suppository at night. For acute cases you can use one suppository every 12 hours.  We would recommend wearing a panty liner, especially when using during the day as there may be mild discharge.

How long should you use pH-D?
Use the suppositories until you are asymptomatic. We tell our customers that you can use for 1-2 days after symptoms subside just in case. For preventative use, we recommend using 2-4 suppositories per week, especially if you are prone to infections. Additionally, a lot of our customers use our suppositories when there could be an issue with vaginal imbalance, such as during or after your period, after intercourse, pre-menopause or during menopause, during antibiotic use or if customers use an IUD.

Is it safe to have intercourse after I have inserted the suppository? 
We recommend refraining from intercourse until after the suppository has completely dissolved. This takes between 4-12 hours. 

Can you use boric acid while pregnant?
There have not been enough studies done on boric acid with pregnancy. We would not recommend using these suppositories during pregnancy.

Is it safe to use pH-D on a regular basis?
Yes, you can use pH-D 2-4 times per week. It is effective in preventing odor caused by: menstruation, intercourse, exercise and vagina imbalance during menopause.

What do the suppositories look like?
The suppositories look like a pill capsule. The suppository dissolves inside your vagina. The small size of our capsules (less than one inch) helps to minimize discharge.

What are the possible side effects?
Some patients could experience mild burning or irritation. Usually this is caused because the suppository was not inserted far enough into your vagina.  Patients could also experience minor discharge, so we would recommend using a panty liner at night.

What is pH?
pH is a scale that indicates acidity and alkalinity. The range goes from 0 to 14, with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most alkaline. Water has a  pH of 7, which is generally referred to as pH neutral. A healthy vaginal pH value is somewhere between 3.8 and 4.5, well into the acidic range. The cause for this is the good bacteria living in the vagina that produce lactic acid and reduce the pH value.

Why is pH value important?
The acidic environment of the vagina is a natural barrier to infection and irritation, since it represses the growth of bad bacteria which prefer a less acidic environment. This means that as long as our good bacteria count is high and the vaginal pH is acidic, bad bacteria have a very slim chance of overgrowing, making the chance of infection low. As soon as the vaginal pH is increased above the value of 4.5, bad bacteria take the opportunity to develop and grow, eventually causing an infection. This can result in symptoms such as discharge, odor, itching and other vaginal discomforts. Changes in pH value are often connected to bacterial vaginosis.

What causes changes in pH?
·      Intercourse:  The alkaline pH value of semen is usually around 7.1-8. This can disturb the acidic environment of the vagina and stimulate BV-causing bacteria.
·      Menstruation:  Blood has a pH of 7.4, so during your period, vaginal pH becomes elevated
·      Menopause:  Can cause a reduction in estrogen levels which can reduce the numbers of lactobacilli, and eventually cause an increase in vaginal pH (thus, reduction in acidity).
·      Douching and cleansers: Anytime water or other liquids are put into the vagina, it can affect your vaginal pH.
·      Antibiotics:  Prescription antibiotics kill the bad bacteria, but also the good ones that are responsible for keeping your vagina acidic and healthy.



How does the Instant Vaginal Odor Rinse work?

Uncap the container with the solution and remove the seal. Remove overwrap on nozzle and twist onto the container with solution. Insert the nozzle into your vagina and dispense the boric acid rinse solution. Solution should flow out of the vagina.
